12 Most Favorite Social Media Quotes
Quotes. How many times have you said “Wow! I wished I said that?”
Most all of us appreciate and collect quotes to varying extents. You just never know when a particular quote may come in handy for a speech, post or tweet.
Recently on my blog I posted “13 Great Social Media Quotes.”
Great though the quotes were, after I posted it I thought “OMG, I should have asked some of the other 12Most contributors for a quote because they do social media right.” So I did.
This collection is the result. While most of them are from 12Mosters, a few I brought over from my original post to share with you.
1. “How can you squander even one more day not taking advantage of the greatest shifts of our generation? How dare you settle for less when the world has made it so easy for you to be remarkable?”
~ Seth Godin, Seth’s Blog
2. “Social Media is about being open, being a connector, being supportive and being yourself.”
~ Michael Q. Todd, @mqtodd, 12Most
3. “Social media provides us the opportunity to think before we ‘speak’, giving us a better shot at reasoned dialog. So it’s not a huge surprise to me that not only can real communication happen, but real relationships can blossom.”
~ Paul Biedermann, @PaulBiedermann, 12Most
4. “Buoy relationships developed through social media by mixing up the medium once in a while. Phone conversations, and in-person meetups — even longer exchanges via e-mail — create a richer communication experience… and deeper connections.”
~ Ellen Bremen, @chattyprof, 12Most
5. “When sexting replaces actual sex, then I will believe that social media relationships have replaced real, face-to-face relationships. Get out from behind the screen and make your social media relationships something more.”

6. “The value of being connected and transparent is so high that the roadbumps of privacy issues are much lower in actual experience than people’s fears.”

12. “What’s the ROI of your Mom?”
~ Gary Vaynerchuk, Crush It, in response to the question “What’s the ROI of Social Media?”
Though this last quote was not said about social media, its message syncs with social media.

#7 and #9 are my favorites! Thanks for sharing you provided some new social media quotes that I haven't read before!
Hi Janet,
Great idea for a post!
I must say that while Gary's "what's the ROI of your mom?" quote got and still gets a lot of play, it still kind of rubs me the wrong way. Truthfully, ROI is something in the online world that businesses do need to understand if they want to remain in, well, business. Yes, relationships are important, but that's not the financial return on investment, that's just nice squishy stuff. Relationships lead to what the ROI is - so, just wanted to get that out there :)
And who knew Charlie Darwin knew about social media? :)
margieclayman Margie, aloha. You must feel so much better since you got that off your chest. Gary's comment is one that is frequently quoted because it does resonate because its pithy. No matter what measurements are used, ultimately it is the relationships that lead to financial return.
Yep, Charlie was way a head of his time. Quite honestly, Margie, I think he was talking about 12Most. What do you think?
Best wishes for a terrific day. Aloha. Janet
Favorite quote: #12 "What the ROI of your mom?" So many just don't get that business and life is about relationships—quality relationships. Things aren't always about money.
JenJenkins Jen, aloha. Thx so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. You are so right that business and life are all about quality relationships.
Best wishes for a Terrific Tuesday. Aloha. Janet
What a great list! I love BrandFlair 's take on the new 15 minutes of fame, and chattyprof has always been a great resource to the online community - she really helped me to communicate a key concept in my new book (namely, owning your expertise when it comes to personal communication). What a great list, janetcallaway Thanks for a really fun post

This is a fun, interesting look at what people are thinking about social media — thanks so much for including me, Janet! All in all though, I’d have to say that Chuck Darwin’s #13 rules!
Paul, it was my pleasure to include your quote because I thought it was great. Of course, that could be because I agree with what you said. Yes, it is amazing how perfect Darwin's quote is when applied to social media. PaulBiedermann
Love 'em. Missed my quote though, Janet: "The ONLY thing I control is what I eat for breakfast!" Lol...
Thx so much. Makes damage control easy, doesn't it? BruceSallan

#9 and on LinkedIn Q&A, your questions and answers are public and stay public. But I did discover the "hide" question. Sometimes I ask questions I didn't think through before posting.
Jodine, aloha. #9 is something we all have to remember. A tweet or post is "out there" forever. What a find to discover the "hide" button. Now if they would jsut invent an "Ooops" button, I would be set. Best wishes for a great day jodinesplace
Good stuff here! This one's adapted from my Biblical studies: "Treat others on social media the way you would like to be treated!"
Well said, Dixie. Thx so much for adding it to the collection. If we all remembered to do that, ahhhh "what a wonderful world this would be!" DixieLil
Great post Janet although I have no idea what the guy in #7 is talking about. :-)
WOW!, I see what you mean, John. Thx so much for alerting me. That one must have slipped past quality control! BrandFlair
