12 Most Rewarding Reasons to be a 12 Most Guest Author

12 Most Rewarding Reasons to be a 12 Most Guest Author

12Most.com is a collaborative blogging community packed with interesting articles written by a plethora of brilliant people on the web. Every post begins with, “12 Most…” and goes on to list and describe the top 12 for the subject in question. The topics range from business to Internet to lifestyle and more, and the content is ALWAYS top-notch.

Founded in June 2011, the site has evolved to include contributions from 50+ writers and is currently ranked 27,048 (as of this post date) out of all the websites in the world according to Alexa.  The community of guest authors for 12 Most is growing rapidly. If you are reading this 12 Most post now, there is no reason why I shouldn’t be reading yours next week.  Read on, and just try to resist contributing to one of the most engaging community blogging conversations!

1. YOU create the content

The topics are are developed by the posters and not assigned by those who run the site. Anyone can submit an article and, as the posts are created organically, the content is that much more creative.

2. The community is highly interactive

People comment on your posts. You comment on the post of others. Very conversational. Typically, when you comment on a post, you’ll get a response within the hour.

3. You are in good company

Some of the most well-known on-line writers contribute to 12 Most. Here you have the opportunity to learn from them and share your insight with them as well.

4. The format is consistent

As you become a regular contributor, you get used to the format and are able to focus on creative content without having to worry about how it’s structured. Every post begins in the same way.

5. A variety of categories

Management. Leadership. Sales. Marketing. Talent. Professional Development. Food. Wine. Dining. Blogging. Social Media. SEO. Innovation. Technology. Arts. Entertainment. Parenting. Relationships. Travel. Photography. Sports. Fitness. Health. Much more to come! If you have something to say, 12 Most is a place for you to say it.

6. Socially integrated authors

You can interact with your readers externally by linking accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, and YouTube. Again, very conversational!

7. As mentioned, ANYONE can submit a post

Not anyone with a Harvard MBA. Not anyone with 201,000 followers on Twitter. Anyone as long as they can spell and use proper grammar to express their ideas and opinions. Period. 12 Most strips the bureaucracy out of art and information distribution. If there is something valuable to say, it can be said here.

8. 12 is the perfect number

It’s just enough that the you know the topic is important enough to talk about but not so many that you are overwhelmed. I’m a believer. 13 is too many. 11 just isn’t quite enough.

9. Author pages

All of your posts as a contributor can be found on your author page. You can link the author page on your website or in your email signature to show the world the great work you’re doing online.

10. “You might also like”

At the bottom of each post is a listing of similar articles. Use this feature to see what other authors similar to you are writing about. Great way to build a network.

11.  Quality theme and graphic

Very eye-catching! Each post contains a picture and, on the homepage, a slide show of those pics plays through. The format is very easy to read and not the least bit hard on the eyes.

12. It’s free!

“Duh!” You may be saying, “Why would I pay to write for someone else?” But the extensive network you become a part of by writing for 12 Most is of tremendous value. You are doing yourself a great disservice if you don’t get involved. Now.

We want YOU for the 12 Most community! Surely, there is something you’ve been itching to share with the world. Opportunity is knocking, and you’ve now got 12 really good reasons to answer the door and check out the 12 Most “How To Guest Post” section of the site.

We look forward to engaging with you!

Thanks for laying out the benefits of contributing to 12 Most, Doug! I think #9 is really big and how it can help with one’s own personal brand and drive traffic to your website/blog, social media pages and other online presences.

A community manager's dream is what this post is! My only problem is why I didn't think of this first! :)

There are too many top 10's and 5's. Top 40's might be too much to read. But I like the daring thought of magic number 13. I have been trying to come up with 12 top things, I never get there.

You forgot the very MOST important reason, Doug! It is FUN!

BTW- Putting a stake in the 'socialsphere' for new acronym #CBlog for my term "Collaborative Blogging Community." Too long to type out, #CBC is a news outlet & #Clog sounds like it needs a plunger.

@PaulBiedermann Absolutely! 12 Most has been great for me and my brand! Also, the author page is nice for SEO. Great things all around. Happy to be part of the community and I hope others will join in!

@margieclayman I actually originally wrote this as a "resource of the week" for my blog but John requested I revise and republish for 12 Most...so I gotta give him credit for the idea. I hope it gets us some more great writers!

@jodinesplace Good feedback. I actually keep a traditional journal of ideas for 12 Most post ideas. Some still only have a subject/title placeholder, some are partially done and have been in the works for a long time, and others like last nights Fortune Cookie and my Grateful Dead post were written in a flash. I find the more I just write ideas down the easier it is to marry words together to express ideas regardless of format. Hope this helps.

@jodinesplace thx for the comment! Yeah, it's hard to make a dent on the web when "lists" are running rampant. I didn't think I'd be able to stretch to twelve for a post but it becomes surprisingly easier with practice. Keep plugging away!

@sean McGinnis Hey, no problem! This is quite an impressive community you and Dan have created! My number of connections have nearly doubled through 12 most and I've been introduced to so many interesting people. Thanks again!
