12 Most Mouthwatering Chocolate Treats

12 Most Mouthwatering Chocolate Treats

The first chocolate factory was established in 1765 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and we haven’t stopped making it since!

Many people crave chocolate everyday and this could be due to the more than 300 chemicals that chocolate contains. A combination of sugar and caffeine as well as theobomine, a weak stimulant, give chocolate lovers a true boost after they eat it. Or it could be that it just tastes good!

I have included some drug store treats as well as some specialty chocolates.

“There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate.” ~  Charles Dickens

1. Hershey’s Kisses

Classic, well love and consistent. Made in Hershey, Pennsylvania “The Sweetest Place on Earth.”©

2. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

The absolute BEST trick-or-treat candy known to man. Or child.

3. Hershey’s Bar

The only thing compatible with toasted marshmallow and two graham crackers on a camping trip.

4. Toblerone Bar

Made with some delicious ingredients: cocoa, milk, almond nougat, and honey. Known for its triangular shape and distinctive box.

5. Dove

Started in Chicago in 1939 with chocolates, Dove is famous for its Dove® Bar which founder Leo Stefanos created after watching his son chase the ice cream truck down the street. He spent months perfecting the ice cream bar and it was an instant success.

6. Lintz

“Master Swiss Chocolatier since 1845″ has a beautiful website with a section dedicated to The Five Senses of Chocolate. Intrigued? Check it out, it’s very interesting.

7. L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates

Known for their chocolate mice, this New Hampshire chocolatier now has stores in Boston, New York City and Cambridge. And, of course, you can shop online.

8. Russell Stover heart shaped Valentine’s box

A classic gift for a Valentine of any age or sex.

9. See’s Candies

All the classic candies in the assorted boxes. YUM!

A unique best seller is their Strawberry Truffles: white chocolate with a rich strawberry truffle center.

10. Ghirardelli

A must visit stop in San Francisco! Ghirardelli is one of the few original and continuously operating businesses in California.

” During the California Gold rush in the mid-1800s, Domingo Ghirardelli shrewdly discovered that the exhausted miners in from the fields were starved for luxuries and needed something to spend their gold dust on. To capitalize on this opportunity, he stocked chocolate delicacies to ensure that they solicited his shop.”

11. Godiva

Tagline: “Nothing says love like Godiva.”
The distinctive, elegant gold box says it all! The assorted box gives you a taste of each of their specialties — just a sample!

Godiva was started in Belguim in 1926 and continues to make its gorgeous creations today.

12. Vosges Haut-Chocolat

Developed by Le Cordon Bleu trained confectionary artist Katrina Markoff, this is the NOT TO BE MISSED treat on my list. Sample what you can in the store and enjoy the beautiful decor.

I recommend the Barcelona Bar “Deep milk chocolate melts into the mineral and sumptuous taste of sea salt and roasted almonds, reminiscent of Marcona, Spain.” If you can treat yourself or are buying a gift for a chocolate lover, I would get the Mini Exotic Candy Bar Library. And savor each bite!

Since you made it this far, I will now tell you a secret. I don’t like chocolate. That being said, I would like to try that Vosges Barcelona Heart. Yum! What is your favorite chocolate? Do you have any chocolate related memories?

@Peg Fitzpatrick I'm definitely hungry for chocolate now and I don't care that it's 9:10 in the morning! --What about Fannie May candies in Chicago? Oooo....brings yummy to a whole new level!

When I was pregnant my tastebuds didn't like chocolate. M&M's tasted horrible. It was sad when I really enjoy M&M's. I find it so funny that I couldn't enjoy chocolate when I was pregnant.

Lindt chocolate with the soft creamy chocolate in the middle.

I still say Hershey's is still the best real chocolate bars and candies. Others have that palm oil or other oils.

Even though you don't like chocolate (WHAT? How can that be?), this is a fine list. I like all things chocolate, but can't stop eating the ice cream version. It's a, "Ben & Jerry's follows me on twitter," loyalty issue, but it is delicious nevertheless. Thanks for sharing your top choices & I'll definitely try the Vosges Heart.

It is true- I don't like it. Hmm ice cream is another post all together. You can even come up with 12 Ben & Jerry's flavors worth a mention.

Really? You don't like chocolate? I've never tried Vosges Haut-Chocolat. I just love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups...maybe more than my children do! :-) Great list! It's almost midnight; that's not too late for a little chocolate snack, is it? x

@sharongreenthal Those are yummy Sharon! I had a friend who always kept a bowl at her house. It would never last at my house. Sweet & salty is a great combo.
