12 Most Happenin’ Ways for Singles to Spend Valentine’s Day

12 Most Happenin’ Ways for Singles to Spend Valentine’s Day

Couples get to show their love to the world on Valentine’s Day, but what about the millions of singles out there? Where is their holiday? A holiday that celebrates their independence and awesomeness?

Let’s replace Valentine’s Day with Singles Awareness Day. How should you celebrate? Here are the 12 Most Happenin’ Ways for Singles to Spend Valentine’s Day — Singles Awareness Day.

1. Dinner party

Do not go to a restaurant! That’s where all those sappy couples are hanging out. Invite your friends over for pizza night or a potluck.

2. Wear any other color but red or pink

While all those cute couples are donning red and pink outfits, stand out by wearing black or chartreuse.

3. Horror movies

Spend the evening with Freddy, Jason or Leather Face. Have you ever noticed how Jason goes after young couples making out?

4. Plan your next adventure

Married couples with kids don’t get to just go on a trip at the drop of a hat. They can’t go wherever they want. Single people can! Dream about your next vacation.

5. Get your video game on

Kinnect party — play Dance Revolution until you can’t dance any more.

6. Pamper yourself

Manicure or pedicure, anyone? Guys, this one is for you too. The ladies have been keeping the awesomeness of manis and pedis a secret for far too long. Go get one.

7. Got to a concert

Head out a see a heavy metal thrash band or a Tom Jones cover band.

8. Schedule a phone date

Is there a long, lost friend you’ve been dying to catch up with? Make a phone date for Single’s Awareness Day.

9. Go to a strip club

Suggested by almost every guy who responded to my Facebook post about what to do when you are single on Valentine’s Day. Stay classy my friends.

10. Re-establish the relationship with you

Hang out with yourself. Relax and do what you love. Meditate.

11. Create!

That knitting project won’t knit itself. Been meaning to start a blog? Do it today. Use the time to cultivate inspiration and create.

12. Do whatever the heck you want

You’re single, independent and fabtastic! Do what you want because at some point your plans are going to be made with someone else in mind.

Valentine’s Day is a commercialized holiday invented to make greeting card companies, florist and restaurants cash. And also make guys feel bad about forgetting the big day.

Whether you are single or coupled, what are you doing on February 14th?

Since it is Valentine's Day, my birthday, and 25 years since my wife accepted my marriage proposal...and we are "this close" to empty nest...I'll go with door #12!

And yeah...been meaning to plan that next trip. Yet our kids are still getting into that picture (something about all-inclusives).

I do believe I have fallen in love this Valentine's Day ......... WITH THIS LIST!  Great suggestions and sentiments.  Thoreau wrote in Walden, "As long as possible live free and uncommitted. It makes but little difference whether you are committed to a farm or the county jail."

@dwaynealicie Awesome Dwayne! I love the Thoreau quote. I think sometimes people forget that being single can be awesome!. Thank you for your comment.

You know, I am not sure what I am doing. I am picking up my packet for a race on Saturday (doesn't get much more romantic than that does it?)! It's a challenging time financially so we will exchange cards, possibly some chocolate will come my way, and I'll say a prayer of gratitude for having everything we need even if we don't have everything we want!

@biggreenpen A race can be totally romantic! I love your attitude of gratitude. That's more important than any card, gift and even chocolate!
